Science and Engineering Practice
A goal of NGSS is to raise engineering design process to the same level scientific methods holds in a science classroom.
Hence, Dr. DomNwachukwu has infused engineering design process into all the project based learning (PBL) projects done in her class.  All projects are now engineering designed projects that are merged with science inquiry practice to become what we now know as STEM projects, with research, technology and mathematical skills as essential components of the whole process.  In STEM projects students learn scientific concepts while solving real world problems through building or creating engineering model projects. By basing engineering designed projects on solving real world problems, Students and their teachers are forced to integrate disciplines because it is not possible to solve a real world problem by focusing only on one discipline.  It takes a focus on multiple disciplines to be able to draw the knowledge base need to solve these problem and this is the sole goal of STEM-NGSS.  Therefore, STEM education is what students do with what they know about the world around them.   This knowledge is deduced from observation, experimentation, engineering design and research.
